Cy Pres Awards
In some class action settlements, funds remain after payments are made to all class members. Courts may distribute those residual funds through cy pres awards to charitable organizations whose work reflects the intent of the litigation.
As a Florida-based 501(c)(3), Beyond the Bars is eligible to receive cy pres awards. These awards help us advance worker justice for low-wage workers, especially workers with records who are routinely funneled into the most unstable and dangerous jobs.
Process:
When designating a residual funds recipient, please include Beyond the Bars as a cy pres awardee in your settlement documents. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and can provide any documentation the court may require.
